Active Armour™ is not a water softening technology. It acts as a “Boundary-Zone Inhibitor”, preventing hardness compounds from sticking to themselves or anything else to form scale.
The advanced proprietary formulation of Active Armour™ allows it to function uniformly from 40F degrees to 140F degrees instead of breaking down like so many other phosphate compounds.
In addition to effectively controlling scale, the safe chemistry of Active Armour™ bonds to exposed metal components of plumbing, faucets, water heaters, and other appliances, and protects them from corrosion.
NOTE: This is the media refill package only - not for new installations.
Instructions for Refill
- Close the inlet valve only.
-
Open a faucet downstream of the system to relieve pressure (leave faucet open until water stops running).
-
Close the outlet valve.
-
Using the filter wrench, unscrew the housing. (It will be heavy and full of water.)
-
Remove the cartridge from the housing and set it aside.
-
Discard water from the housing, rinse with clean water and wipe with a clean lint-free towel.
-
Unscrew the lid and pour in the Active Armour refill media.
-
Pour disinfectant into the cartridge and replace the lid.
-
Gently tip the cartridge back and forth several times to mix the media.
-
Return the cartridge to the housing ensuring that the arrow on the cartridge points UP towards the lid.
-
Hand tighten the housing until snug, then tighten an additional ¼ turn with the filter wrench.
-
Open the outlet valve.
- Slowly open the inlet valve.
- Allow water to run at the open faucet for 5 minutes to purge air and disinfectant.
-
Close the faucet and allow for full pressurization, then check for leaks at the system.
-
If the system leaks, depressurize, reposition/replace the O-ring, repressurize, and check again for leaks.
When needed, lubricate the O-ring with a silicone lubricant. (Petroleum-based lubricants are strictly prohibited.)
